Leading dissident republican Mr Michael McKevitt was further remanded in custody for two weeks when he made a brief appearance at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday.

Mr McKevitt (51), Blackrock, Dundalk, Co Louth, is charged that between August 29th, 1999, and March 28th, 2001, he was a member of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, and that he directed the activities of the same organisation.

Mr Hugh Hartnett SC, for Mr McKevitt, said the defence received certain material from the State last Thursday and he applied for a two-week adjournment. Mr Mc Kevitt was remanded in custody until May 28th when a date for a bail hearing is expected to be fixed.
