The trial date the alleged leader of the "Real IRA" on charges of directing terrorism for has been set for next year.
Mr Michael McKevitt (51), from Blackrock, Co Louth, appeared at the Special Criminal Court this morning after being the first person to be charged with the offence in the State.
His trial is expected to begin next January.
But a preliminary hearing will also be held on October 9th, when there will be legal argument about the disclosure of documents to his defence team.
The defence will argue US and British security services made multi-million pound payments to the key prosecution witness, an FBI agent who infiltrated the "Real IRA", Mr David Rupert.
Mr Rupert began passing information about republican terrorists to the FBI in 1994 and is said to have been reporting directly to MI5 by 1997. He is now living on a US witness protection programme.
The trial of Mr McKevitt, on remand in Portlaoise prison, is expected to last for at least six weeks.
The trial, which was initially due to begin this summer, was adjourned after defence lawyers raised concerns about the disclosure of documents.
Mr McKevitt is one of five men being sued by relatives of the 29 people who were killed in the 1998 "Real IRA" bombing of Omagh.
