Meath defender Paddy Reynolds has been ruled out of Sunday’s Leinster football final clash with Dublin after receiving an eight week suspension from the Games Administration Committee (GAC).
Reynolds was sent off in Meath’s Leinster semi-final match against Kildare on June 26th for striking Ken Doyle.
Such an offence commands a mandatory four week suspension, but, the GAC doubled the ban after deciding it was the same offence that saw him sent off in a National Football League game against Mayo in April.
Meanwhile, Ray Connelly has been cleared to play in the remainder of Mayo’s championship campaign.
The GAC overturned a compulsory four week ban after video evidence revealed that Connelly did not deserve his sending off for an alleged strike on Roscommon forward Frankie Dolan during the Connacht football final.
Mayo take their place in Sunday night’s draw for the fourth-round of the qualifying series on July 21st-22nd.
Both Reynolds and Connelly made personal appearances at last night’s hearing at GAA headquarters.
Kildare duo Eddie McCormack (forward) and Christy Byrne (goalkeeper) receive eight week bans after being reported for verbal abuse by referee Brian Crowe during the All-Ireland series third round defeat to Sligo at Croke Park last Saturday.
Down hurler Michael Branniff is suspended for four weeks resulting from his dismissal in the Ulster Hurling final against Derry last Sunday.
