The potential crisis in Meath hurling has been averted after manager Michael Duignan and his three co-selectors agreed to resume normal service this morning.

The backroom team had withdrawn their services yesterday afternoon in protest at the Meath county board's reluctance to postpone this weekend's round of senior football club matches in the county.

Many of the Meath panel play both codes and Duignan maintained it was unfair to ask players to play a club match and then a league match - Meath face Antrim at Casement Park in the NHL on Sunday afternoon - in so short a period of time.

However, following a meeting of the county board last night, a number of the SFC games involving dual players have now been called off until Tuesday week. A subsequent emergency meeting between Duignan and the hurling board this afternoon led to the manager indicating his intention to return to the helm.

His co-selectors Paddy Kelly, Eddie Priest and John Hunt will also be on the sideline at Casement Park.

"The matter has now been put to bed," Meath hurling PRO Frank Dempsey confirmed this afternoon.

"It's a credit to all involved that it was resolved so quickly and in such a mature fashion," added Dempsey
