Vancouver - Two men have been charged with trying to intimidate a witness in the trial of the accused bombers of Air India Flight 182, history's deadliest act of aviation sabotage, police said yesterday.

The men, both affiliated with the International Sikh Youth Federation, are accused of telling a former member that he would be a traitor if he testified.

The 1985 bombing, which destroyed an Air India Boeing 747 off the coast of Ireland and killed 329 people, is believed to be the work of Sikh religious extremists. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they arrested Ranjit Singh Randhawa (65) and Harjit Singh Atwal (46) surrendered to authorities.
