Two men involved in a riot which led to the death of Mr Josie Dwyer have been jailed for 20 months by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Mark Alford (30), Seagull House, Crumlin, and William Kenny (55), St Anthony's Road, Rialto, were convicted last month of violent disorder and of assault on Mr Alan Byrne, who was with Mr Dwyer when the two were attacked in Dublin's south inner city on May 14, 1996. The jury cleared both of killing Mr Dwyer on the same occasion.

The jury reached its decision after a deliberation of nearly 10 hours spread over two days. It was the 11th day of the trial. In all, 12 men have gone to trial for alleged manslaughter of Mr Dwyer, assault on Mr Byrne and violent disorder.
