US software giant Microsoftsaid today it hoped to retain its more than 30 per cent growth in annual sales registered last year in the fast-growing market of eastern Europe.

"In the past calendar year we've been growing by more than 30 per cent in eastern Europe and I we can sustain the same kind of growth," said Mr Jean-Philippe Courtois, Microsoft president for Europe Middle East and Africa.

"I must say that eastern Europe is now one of the fastest growing regions in this big continent," Mr Courtois told reporters in an interview in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

"There is a lot of energy and commitment to the IT sector in this region," he added.
