Jakarta - Indonesia's military announced yesterday it was watering down its role in domestic politics, a key demand of pro-reform protesters who held demonstrations across the country during the day.
The armed forces chief, Gen Wiranto, who is also Defence Minister, told a news conference the post of the head of the military's socio-political division was being abolished. He spoke only hours after thousands of students protested around Indonesia demanding more moves towards political reform.
