CROATIA: While Mr Slobodan Milosevic is standing trial for alleged war crimes next week it will be the turn of his wife, Mrs Mira Markovic, to face court, a newspaper said yesterday.
A Belgrade court has charged Mrs Markovic with abuse of power for allegedly using her influence to ensure that a former nanny of her son Marko received a state flat, the daily Politika reported.
A court official confirmed that a trial dealing with illegal distribution of state flats would get under way on March 13th, but could not give details about the case or name the accused person.
Politika said Mrs Markovic, once a powerful figure in her own right, was indicted together with 10 other people, including officials from her neo-communist Yugoslav Left party and Mr Milosevic's Socialist Party, which ruled in the 1990s.
A spokeswoman for Mrs Markovic's party said she had not seen the court summons but dismissed the case as an old story.
