Met Éireann have confirmed reports of two mini-tornados in Co Longford and Co Meath earlier this afternoon.
A spokeswoman said that while the mini-tornados were relatively rare in Ireland but they are by no means a freak occurrence.
According to reports, the tornado lifted a mobile home in Longford and blew it over fifteen yards away. A hayshed was also damaged by the wind.
"The weather we had this afternoon with heavy showers and rain are ideal conditions for creating the funnels we normally associate with tornadoes," she said.
"What is rare is the fact that it damaged property given how localised they normally are.
Current conditions are likely to clear up over night leading to a bright Saturday. However, heavy rain is expected to move in on Saturday night leading to a very wet Sunday.
