THE minibus due to be used by 22 unemployed Irish people to travel to a mass rally for jobs in Amsterdam has been stolen in Derry and burnt, writes Padraig Yeates.

The Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed is now appealing to trade unions, trades councils and the public for funds to replace it.

The minibus was being provided to the INOU by the Bridge Project for People with Disabilities, for use during the trip to Amsterdam. The Irish "marchers" were due to set off from Derry on June 2nd. After stopping in Dublin to meet the President, Mrs Robinson, on June 4th, they were due to depart from Cork for Roscoff on June 6th and then travel on foot to the rally against unemployment in Amsterdam on June 14th.

The rally is timed to coincide with the EU intergovernmental conference on a new European Treaty.
