Dyslexia has replaced decommissioning as the main "D" word on the agenda of Northern Ireland's new Minister of Education, Mr Martin McGuinness.
"When people tell me that it is their opinion that one out of 10 of the school-going population suffers from this condition, then that is a huge problem that needs to be addressed and something which my Department will have to look at," said Mr McGuinness.
The Minister was speaking during a visit to his former primary school in Derry, St Eugene's.
His warm reception contrasted with the protest at Kilkeel High School last week, when students objected to his appointment. "I plan to visit schools everywhere," he said.
Pupils at two more schools yesterday walked out in protest for an hour at Mr McGuinness's appointment. About 100 students left their classrooms at Regent House School in Newtownards, Co Down, and Clounagh Junior High School in Portadown, Co Armagh.
