The inquiry by the Dail Committee of Public Accounts into deposit interest retention tax (DIRT) will adjourn for a week next Wednesday while the chairman, Mr Jim Mitchell, undergoes surgery for a back problem.
Members of the committee expect to complete the hearing of evidence by Wednesday next, September 29th, and will adjourn until the following Thursday, October 7th, for the start of three days of cross-examination.
This will include questioning by the witnesses' legal teams.
Under a revised schedule the five former finance ministers will all be questioned next Wednesday by the inquiry's legal team, before the Dail resumes for a new term in the afternoon.
AIB senior executives will give evidence to the committee today and on Monday while the Revenue Commissioners, including a former chairman, Mr Seamus Pairceir, will be questioned about the genesis of SIM 263. This was the internal Revenue document which prohibited tax officials from examining declaration forms for non-resident accounts at bank branches.
Closing submissions in the inquiry are now expected to take place on Monday, October 11th. Mr Mitchell has already said that he hopes the committee's final report will be completed before Christmas.
