Luas operator Veolia is requesting information regarding a mobility scooter which was found abandoned on the Dundrum Luas platform in late November last year.

A spokeswoman described the find as the most unusual "lost item" found on their property since the service began in 2004.

She said the operator had begun a campaign to find the scooter's owner and have already contacted gardaí and the Irish Wheelchair Association.

Veolia is asking the public to contact them on freephone number 1800 300 604 if they recognise the scooter or who it belongs to.

Luas employees are no strangers to lost property, with at least one laptop left behind every month by service users. According to Veolia, all laptops registered as lost have been reunited with their owners.

Other items that have been abandoned on the tram system include two sets of crutches, three prams, a set of false teeth, a single shoe and a number of social welfare passes.

Musical instruments such as a banjo, clarinet and violin have also been handed in to Luas workers.
