The Taoiseach should give farmers a "clear reassurance" that Prionsias De Rossa will not be appointed Minister for Agriculture if the coalition is returned to power, the PD TD for Galway West, Mr Bobby Molloy, has said.

Mr Bruton, he said, has a duty to allay the fears of farmers that they will not suffer "because of his infatuation with the most left wing party in the Dail". He said there is no mention of agriculture or farmers in Democratic Left's manifesto and "the hostile attitude of Democratic Left towards the farming sector is a source of real concern".
