What links Picadilly, Coventry Street and Leicester Square in London with Talbot Street, North Earl Street and O'Connell Street in Dublin? As yellow properties on a Monopoly board, they are recommended as the best investment by the new monopoly champion in Britain, Mr Jeff Collins, of Co Down.
The former bookmaker from Rostrevor upset the form book last week by capturing the title of 1999 UK Monopoly Champion on the final roll of the dice.
Mr Collins, a self-confessed Monopoly novice, was down £8,000 going into the last of three games with the English, Scottish and Welsh champions as well as the runner-up of the UK regions.
But he stormed to overall victory on the final day of the competition in London in a game which saw him buy up all but four properties on the board and bring his cash total £800 above his nearest rival.
Mr Collins now progresses to the World Monopoly Championship in Toronto, Canada, representing the United Kingdom. There he will join the current Irish champion, Nigerian-born Mr Ekundayo Badmus, and compete for a prize fund thought to be in excess of £15,000.
However, as Mr Collins acknowledged, the result means "two Irish guys now go to Toronto".
