Tests are continuing on water supplies in Galway today to try to establish the cause of a severe stomach illnesses which is affecting people in the city and county.
Medical scientists and environmental health officers will carry on investigations amid concerns that an illness, which causes severe cramps and diarrhoea, was being transmitted by water supplies.
Over 90,000 living in the city and in an area of the county between Moycullen in Connemara and Tuam and Athenry are advised to continue boiling tap water before drinking it or using it for food preparation.
The exact cause of the outbreak has still not been established, but experts at the regional pathology laboratory are continuing to examine samples sent to them from local GPs.
The drinking water alert was highlighted after public health officials in the county noticed a steep rise in the number of people suffering from a stomach bug illness in recent weeks.
The diarrhoea-type illness is known as Cryptosporidiosis.
