More than 100 people have been killed and another 1,000 wounded in fresh ethnic and religious fighting in central Nigeria, the Nigerian Red Cross said today.
One newspaper reported 120 were killed in fighting between Muslims and Christians in six remote farming villages on the border between Plateau and Taraba states.
"We cannot be specific about the death toll, but 5,518 people have been displaced in five locations," a Nigerian Red Cross Society official said.
Almost 250 people have been killed in violence in the region over the past two-and-a-half months, according to unofficial figures.

Local media have reported fighting in the villages of Old Sarkin Kudu, New Sarkin Kudu, Auoshima One, Auoshima Two, Angon Masu and Sabon Layi.
