GARDAI investigating a fatal stabbing in Rathmines, Dublin, last Saturday morning say they need more witnesses to come forward to supply details of the incident. Mr Gerry Hagan (32) died from multiple stab wounds received during a fight at Lower Rathmines Road. Two other men were injured.
Det Insp Tony Brislane of Rathmines Garda station said there were many witnesses to the fight, which started in a house but spilled onto the street. "We need anyone who saw what happened to come forward," he said.
Although the fight occurred at about 4 a.m., there were many pedestrians nearby and people passing in cars. House to house inquiries in the area were continuing yesterday.
The two injured men, Mr Mark Browne and Mr Douglas McManus, had rented a flat in the house about six months ago. Other men would stay there from time to time.
As the fight in the flat was under way on Saturday morning, Mr Hagan, of Norfolk Road, Belfast, arrived at the door. He was stabbed a number of times and staggered onto the street, where he collapsed in a pool of blood.
He was dead on arrival at the Meath hospital. Gardai believe they have recovered part of the knife used in the attack.
