Cricket:Paul Collingwood will miss England's forthcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh because of a shoulder injury while Dublin-born batman Eoin Morgan received something of a surprise call up.

ICC World Twenty20-winning captain Collingwood is sidelined along with Stuart Broad who is to be rested in favour of a "strengthening programme". Their absence from the 12-man squad announced this morning was anticipated ahead of the first Test at Lord's on Thursday.

Morgan has become a cornerstone of England's limited-overs teams but the 23-year-old Middlesex batsman was thought likely to have to wait for his chance in Tests.

The squad also contains Middlesex fast bowler Steven Finn, who retains his place in the 12 - having figured in both England's Test victories over the same opponents in Bangladesh two months ago.

Collingwood's absence has created an opportunity to fast-track Morgan, with Jonathan Trott remaining in the picture - while there are also places for Yorkshire pace-bowling all-rounders Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad and returning fast bowler James Anderson - but none for Ryan Sidebottom.

Matt Prior predictably retains the wicketkeeper position ahead of Craig Kieswetter.

Collingwood is to undertake a period of rehabilitation for a left shoulder injury which developed during the ICC World Twenty20. Scans this week revealed he will require treatment, with a specialist review to follow next week.

National selector Geoff Miller said: "Paul will undergo a period of rehabilitation for a shoulder injury and has been ruled out of the Test series against Bangladesh.

"There's a need for Stuart to undertake an intensive strengthening programme before an arduous summer and a busy winter, and the next three weeks have been identified as the ideal period for this programme.

"We believe we've selected an exciting squad - and with Paul Collingwood and Stuart Broad taking no part in this series, the opportunity arises for a number of younger players to make a mark at Test level."

Among those are Middlesex pair Morgan and Finn.

"Eoin Morgan has impressed everyone since his inclusion in England's one-day squad and he now has the opportunity to play a role in the Test team. He has always held ambitions of playing across all forms of the game, and we believe he has earned his place in this Test squad.

"We were encouraged by Steven Finn's Test debut in Bangladesh during the winter, and he has had a fine start to the domestic season for Middlesex. He is aware of what is involved at the international level - and along with Ajmal Shahzad, who has also made a bright start to the county season after touring Bangladesh over the winter, offers us a great deal of depth in the bowling ranks."

"We were all delighted and extremely proud of the the way the Twenty20 squad performed at the ICC World Twenty20.

"Their success is testament to a great deal of hard work. The focus now shifts back to the longer form of the game and we look forward to the first npower Test against Bangladesh."
