The Moriarty tribunal, which was to resume its hearings today, has decided to delay resumption until Tuesday next, at 10.30 a.m.

The tribunal is investigating the finances of the former Taoiseach Mr Charles Haughey and former Fine Gael minister Mr Michael Lowry. The resumed hearings are expected to hear evidence concerning Mr Lowry. Evidence will also be heard concerning the Ansbacher deposits and accounts linked to Mr Haughey.

In May counsel for the tribunal, Mr John Coughlan SC, indicated the tribunal might have to reinterpret its terms of reference to allow it hear evidence concerning a "holder of public office" who was not a government minister.
