Singer Van Morrison was restrained by a High Court order yesterday from continuing to carry out works on a driveway which connects properties at Sorrento Road, Dalkey, Co Dublin.

The interim injunction was granted to Alphonsus and Claudia O'Mara, of Monte Alverno, Sorrento Road, by Mr Justice Lavan who adjourned the matter to Wednesday next.

In an affidavit, Mr O'Mara said Mr Morrison's architect had written on October 24th last concerning proposals for the private driveway which connects all the properties on the estate with Sorrento Road.

Work had been undertaken to widen the right of way, remove an earth bank and fell a number of trees. Mr O'Mara was not satisfied with an assurance on behalf of Mr Morrison that work would not proceed without planning permission.
