London - The image of despondent young lovers leaping hand-in-hand off a cliff is outdated - suicide pacts are for the older and better-off, according to British researchers. They also found that such pacts were much less common than 35 years ago.

The researchers, Mr Martin Brown and Mr Brian Barraclough of the University of Southampton, found that 124 people killed themselves in 62 pacts. Most of the pacts - 48 - were between married couples, their report in the British Medical Journal said. - (Reuter)
