A Lithuanian woman whose premature baby was found dead in Co Armagh is to be interviewed by immigration officials on suspicion of entering Northern Ireland illegally.
The woman, who gave birth to the baby boy just 30 weeks into her pregnancy, is believed to have entered Northern Ireland illegally with another woman who has been detained by officials.
Meanwhile, a post mortem was being carried out today on the body of the newborn infant.
The grim discovery was made by police yesterday at a house on the Battleford Road, six miles from Armagh City.
The search was mounted after the woman was admitted to the Craigavon Area Hospital on Thursday in a critical condition.
Doctors quickly discovered that she had given birth to a premature baby.
Police were contacted and went to a bungalow six miles outside Armagh.
The property was sealed off while forensic officers searched the scene. Police later confirmed a child's body had been found.
The area was examined for a few hours by forensic experts.
A police spokeswoman said the police investigation was ongoing and they would know more after the postmortem was completed.
They later contacted immigration control to alert officials to the possibility that the two women had entered the Province illegally.
The mother is now in a comfortable condition in hospital.
