THE WOMAN who died in a house fire yesterday morning has been named as Sophie Denning, a mother of two.

She died in the blaze at the Drumlin’s housing estate Virginia, Co Cavan, despite frantic efforts from the fire service and neighbours to rescue her. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan where a postmortem was carried out.

Three other occupants in the house, a woman and two men, were treated for smoke inhalation and later released from hospital. The cause of the blaze is not yet known but the scene has been sealed off and a forensic examination carried out.

It is understood the victim’s sister was the second woman in the house and that her two children were staying with relations.
