Mrs Margaret Trundle, of Midleton in Co Cork, says she has been encouraged and made more hopeful by recent approaches made to her by readers of "Southern Report". Her son Rory was brain-damaged at birth and she was experiencing difficulties with sporadic episodes of violence on his part.
Since her case was highlighted here some weeks ago, there has been an enormous response, and people in the area, including many with medical expertise, have made contact to offer help.
The easy way to deal with Rory would be to give him drugs and send him away. His mother does not want that, but if she is to be able to cope with him in a family environment she has to understand the underlying cause of his sporadic outbreaks of violence against her and only her.
She has felt forlorn and without help. Now, for the first time in years, she feels the tide may be turning because medical personnel with knowledge of the treatment her son needs and who have dealt with similar cases, have offered her at least the promise of a new beginning. She says she has never been more hopeful.
