A woman motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a double-decker bus in Dublin city centre yesterday evening. She became trapped underneath the vehicle but was said to be in a stable condition last night. The incident occurred at about 6pm at the Fleet Street junction with Westmoreland Street as the 15A bus from Rathmines prepared to turn right to make its final stop on Fleet Street.

Two units of Dublin Fire Brigade had to jack up the front of the bus in order to release the female motorcyclist, whose leg was trapped underneath her Suzuki motorcycle. The woman, who works as a motorcycle courier, suffered broken bones and was admitted to St James's Hospital, where she was described as being in a "stable condition" last night.

The female bus driver was not admitted to hospital but provided gardaí with a full statement of the circumstances of the incident.

Gardaí cordoned off the area for technical examination. Dublin Bus also conducted its own investigation.
