The North's Sports Minister, Mr Michael McGimpsey, has sympathised with the family of the motorcycle racer Mr Edward Sinton (34), who was killed in a crash at the Carrowdore 100 Races on Saturday. "Following so soon after the deaths in Monaghan (of Mr Gary Dynes and Mr Andrew McClean) this tragic accident highlights again the importance of finding ways to try to eliminate this loss of life," he said.

Mr Sinton's death brings the number of Northern Ireland racers killed in the sport to eight in 12 months. Meanwhile, a 17-year-old youth has died after being struck by a car on the Portadown Road, Lurgan, Co Armagh, early on Sunday morning.

On Saturday, Mr William Greer (71), whose car had collided with two British army Land-Rovers in Co Derry two weeks ago, died from his injuries. His wife died in the accident.
