Two motorcyclists were killed in separate accidents on Monday night.
A 20-year-old man was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a wall at Crickstown, less than a mile south of Curragha in Co Meath.
He was travelling north on the R155 from the direction of Ratoath on a 125cc motorcycle.
The accident took place at a bend in the road at about midnight on Monday. There were no other vehicles involved and the man has not been named.
This stretch of road is not considered a high risk area, although the road is marked with continuous white lines, according to local gardaí.
The man was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Navan, and was pronounced dead at 12.56 a.m. yesterday.
A 34-year-old man was killed in a similar accident when he lost control of his motorcycle near Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow. He was named locally as Mr Joseph Murphy (34) of Nurney, Co Carlow. The incident occurred at 10.15 p.m. on Monday on the minor road from Leighlinbridge to Tullow.
There were no other vehicles involved. Neither of the deceased have yet been named.
The accidents bring the total number of motorcyclists killed in road accidents this year to 32.
The total number of people killed on the roads this year is 269.
This compares to a figure of 267 killed over the same period last year.
