A motorist who paid by credit card to have his car unclamped got fed up waiting and decided to do it himself only to be spotted by gardaí, Dublin District Court heard yesterday.
Mr Simon Carmody (57), of London, pleaded guilty to damaging the clamp at Waterloo Road, Dublin, on February 14th. Judge Geoffrey Browne imposed a fine of €250, after Mr Carmody paid over €310, the cost of the damage to the clamp.
Child killed in Limerick accident
A three-year-old girl from Limerick died yesterday afternoon when she was struck by a truck while playing just yards from her home, writes Olivia Kelleher. The child was on her tricycle at Hawthorne Drive in Newcastle West when a truck driver started up his vehicle without realising she was in his path. The toddler was caught under a wheel of the truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Kerry footballer returned for trial
Declan Quill, a member of the Kerry senior football panel, was returned for trial to the Circuit Criminal Court in Tralee when he appeared at Killarney District Court yesterday on a charge of assaulting a woman, writes Anne Lucey
Mr Quill, of Ashgrove, Ballyvalley, Tralee, Co Kerry, is accused of assaulting Ms Orlaith Cussen, in Killarney, on September 3rd, 2001. He is contesting the charge.
Under-age drinking charge dismissed
A bar-owner who faced a charge of allowing an under-age person to consume alcohol, had the case against him dismissed at Killarney District Court yesterday, writes Anne Lucey.
The girl, who was 16 at the time, said she had been drinking a pint of Heineken, at the Fáilte Bar, Killarney. Garda Aoife Dolan said the girl was drinking "a pint of beer". Mr Niall Brosnan, solicitor for Mr Dermot O'Callaghan, the owner, said the charge related to "a pint of Bulmers" cider.
