A MOTORIST who forced a woman motorist towing a horsebox to pull over on to the hard shoulder later described her to gardai as thick, ignorant and said she was likely to become a victim of road rage.
Mr Peter Wrafter, The Pines, Castleknock, Dublin 15, was charged with careless driving and public order offences at Moyvalley, Enfield, on the September 10th last year.
The court heard that Ms Catriona Maloney had been driving a jeep pulling a horsebox on the Galway to Dublin road at about 30 m.p.h. The defendant had been in a line of traffic behind her and she told the court he had overtaken her near a bridge and then pulled in front of her car and began to brake.
He gestured at her to pull into the roadside. She did this and said he came up to her and told her she was interfering with his right to travel at 60 m.p.h. She said he hurled abuse at her.
Judge John Brophy said the accused's intention was to be a bully and he should have kept going.
He dismissed the careless driving charge but said the accused had used threatening and abusive language towards the woman and it was "road rage". He did not record a conviction conditional on the man donating £140 to the St Vincent de Paul society and paying the witness expenses of £160.
