The AA has issued a warning to motorists travelling through the Midlands and North West today as heavy fog is severely reducing visability.

Motorists are advised to slow down especially in the areas between Monaghan & Caslteblaney and also Sligo. Drogheda town and the town's bypass are also badly affected. The fog is expected to clear by morning.

Met Éireann has  forecast a bright and cold weekend with just some patchy showers here and there. Temperatures are expected to range between three and nine degrees Celsius.

All ferries sailings are running to schedule today and there are no delays reported at Dublin airport. There will be a full DART service is available over the weekend and Iarnród Éireann are not reporting any delays to commuter services.
