The Glen of Imaal mountain rescue team says July was its busiest month on record for call-outs in Co Wicklow, writes Christine Newman.
The team was called out on 13 incidents. A spokeswoman said this was three times the normal number of call-outs in July.
The rescue team dealt with one fatality. Most of the incidents were relatively minor, with lower leg injuries and people getting lost rating high among the call-outs.
She said there were a lot more people around the Glendalough area, including many tourists from Italy, France and Germany, so it was possibly the good weather that had brought them out. Over the August bank holiday weekend, a female walker suffering from exhaustion and dehydration on Djouce Mountain, and another woman, suffering from an asthma attack, both requested assistance.
