More than a thousand people thronged Tramore Church yesterday to say farewell to former Republic of Ireland football captain and member of Manchester United's Busby Babes, Shay Brennan.
Mr Brennan died suddenly in Co Wexford on Friday. He was 63.
Capped 19 times for Ireland, Mr Brennan captained the national side on five occasions. He played right back in the Manchester United European Cup winning team in 1968.
Among the mourners were his former colleagues at Manchester United, John Giles, Nobby Stiles and Wilf McGuinness. Former Republic of Ireland manager Eoin Hand also attended.
At the Mass, Father Tom Flynn said in his homily that Mr Brennan was "a gentleman who had won so many awards and was yet so humble."
Eoin Hand spoke fondly of Mr Brennan. "I remember how humble he was and how welcome he made me when I first came into the international side."
Mr Brennan is survived by his wife Liz and daughters Mary, Jenny, Susan, Michelle and Nicola.
