CHANGES in the law on custody of children following marriage breakdown are being prepared, the House was told.
The Minister for Finance, Mr Quinn (for the Minister for Equality and Law Reform), was responding to questions from Mr Tommy Broughan (Lab, Dublin North East) and Mr Sean Haughey (FE, Dublin North Central) who referred to injustices against separated fathers in regard to custody and continuing relationships with their children following marriage breakdown.
Mr Broughan appealed for funding for the Parental Equality Organisation which highlighted fathers' problems.
Mr Quinn said that under the present law the welfare of the child was the paramount consideration.
