Management at DIT have moved to resolve the dispute at the college which has resulted in a group of students having virtually no lectures since the start of term.
DIT in a statement last night said additional teaching hours were being transferred to the school of art, design and printing so that students could receive lectures in the normal fashion. This is the school which has borne the brunt of cuts in recent weeks.
DIT said it regarded the education of its students as "its first priority" and it deeply regretted the uncertainty students faced over recent weeks. It said the change was being made following "a further review of cost centres across DIT".
With the co-operation of other schools and faculties, additional teaching hours were now being transferred, said a statement. "These hours, combined with a further re-organisation of the school's timetables, should address the recent difficulties encountered, particularly in the visual communications, interior and furniture design and fine art programmes."
The statement said the college was confident the measures would be evident to students and staff during the coming week.
