A bid by Cork property developer Owen O'Callaghan to stop the Mahon tribunal inquiring into matters related to the rezoning of Quarryvale will continue before the High Court today.

Senior counsel Paul Gallagher, for Mr O'Callaghan, yesterday applied for a stay on the tribunal's further inquiring into allegations made against his client by property developer Tom Gilmartin pending the outcome of Mr O'Callaghan's judicial challenge to that tribunal. Mr Justice John Quirke said the application by Mr O'Callaghan went "to the core of the tribunal", and it should be possible to hold the judicial review early next term.

Mr O'Callaghan is alleging "very serious and glaring inconsistencies" between Mr Gilmartin's private statements to the tribunal's lawyers and his evidence on oath before the tribunal.
