Everton boss David Moyes lashed out at referee Jeff Winter after a 2-1 defeat by Charlton which could have cost his side a place in next season's Champions League.
A rare mistake by Chinese midfielder Li Tie let in Kevin Lisbie for a late winner at The Valley on Saturday.
But it was a clash just before half-time between Charlton's Scott Parker and Everton defender Alan Stubbs which most angered Moyes, who felt his side should have had a penalty for a tackle which forced Stubbs out of the game.
"Wayne Rooney was sent off for a challenge nothing like as bad as that a few weeks ago," said Moyes.
"We don't know the extent of Alan's injury or whether it is a break but it is his ankle and it is very sore. He will be having a scan."
Moyes also claimed Charlton's opening goal should have been ruled out because Lisbie was offside when Bulgarian Radostin Kishishev slotted home.
"You would have to be blind not to see we should have won the game. We deserved it but I don't know why we occasionally lose games we should win."
Addicks boss Alan Curbishley defender Parker's role in the clash with Stubbs.
"Scott did well and I don't know if David (Moyes) has seen something I haven't, but Parker is a competitive player and was just getting out there to make a block for us when Stubbs tried to score from (Thomas) Gravesen's free-kick.
"Scott plays hard and he's been sorted out a few times himself this season. He had seven stitches at Chelsea and was full of bruises at Liverpool."
Curbishley refused to comment on the refereeing of the match.
"All I know is that we've been involved in a great game, a tough game. We could have had it sewn up by half-time with better finishing but we've given their goalkeeper Richard Wright a boost in front of the England manager."
The win took Charlton past Curbishley's 40-point survival target but he insisted they would not rest on their laurels.
"Our players are also getting noticed now because of our results. That's our fourth win in a row and it takes us past the 40 points mark with 11 games to go. Our aim now is to beat our best-ever 52 Premiership points and ninth place."
Having gone behind to Kishishev's controversial opener, Everton came out blazing in the second half.
American striker Brian McBride ran on to a clever ball by Li Tie to clinch an equaliser.
But Li blundered at the end of the match by striking a pass straight into the path of Charlton sub Jonatan Johansson who smartly set up Lisbie for a well-taken winner.
It was an unfortunate end to a good week for Li. Moyes announced on Friday that he wanted to turn the Chinese star's current loan deal into a permanent contract.
