London - House of Commons Speaker Ms Betty Boothroyd gave the go-ahead yesterday for Labour's Ms Fiona Jones to resume her seat as MP for Newark after the quashing of her conviction for electoral fraud.
To Labour cheers, Ms Boothroyd confirmed the decision by two High Court judges that Ms Jones was entitled to return to the House following her successful appeal.
"It is my understanding that the Divisional Court has decided that following Fiona Jones's successful appeal against her conviction, the Newark seat is not vacant," she said.
