South African Zacharia Mpolokeng emerged victorious from a field of over 8,000 runners to win the Dublin City Marathon today in a time of 2 hours 14 minutes and 3 seconds.

The 33-year-old from Johannesburg was pushed to the end by Belgium’s Gino Van Geyte (2:14.07) who was only four seconds slower in second. Coincidentally, it was the same four second margin to Kenya’s Daniel Kirwa (2:14.11) in third.

John Griffen was the best placed Irish runner. The twice former winner finished 14th running a time of 2:23.23

Meanwhile England’s Debbie Robinson won the women’s race in a time of 2:35.40 ahead of Belgium’s Katya Merlin (2:43.02) in second.
