Some 200 suspected war veterans and supporters of the ruling ZANU-PF party attacked the house of an opposition parliamentarian and severely assaulted a security guard on the premises, a newspaper reported today.

said Wednesday's attack, carried out in broad daylight, was the second in 24 hours on the house of Mr Willias Madzimure, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) member of parliament for Kambuzuma township.

A security guard at the house sustained serious head injuries during the attack before taking cover under a bed to avoid further assaults. Police had arrested two suspects, the paper added.

Police were not available for further comment today.

Mr Madzimure, who was in parliament during the attack, told the Daily Newsthat the self-styled war veterans illegally occupying council land in the township had assaulted several suspected MDC supporters in the past few weeks.
