Round-up: Charlie Mulgrew has stepped down as Fermanagh manager after his side lost 0-09 to 0-11 to Meath in their All-Ireland SFC qualifier in Navan.
The Donegal man had brought the Erne county to the All-Ireland semi-finals in 2004 to mark their best run in the championship. Mulgrew should be praised for elevating Fermanagh to the status of serious contenders in a difficult province dominated by Tyrone and Armagh in recent times.
Even in last night's encounter Fermanagh had their chances against Meath but for all their possession they were unable to put the necessary points on the board.
In yesterday's key fixture Derry enjoyed a comprehensive 2-13 to 1-6 win over Mayo in their SFC Qualifier at Celtic Park.
With Enda Muldoon in great form in the middle of the park Derry held a narrow 0-8 to 1-3 lead at the interval.
Mayo got back on level terms in the second half but Colin Devlin's goal would prove to be the catalyst for Derry as they pressed for home with a number of late scores, including a wonderful Muldoon goal.
This was Derry's second scalp in the space of a week for they beat Armagh last Sunday and today they overcame last year's All-Ireland finalists.
Ciaran McDonald came on for Mayo in the second half but even his presence couldn't inspire against a dominant Derry side.
Of the other early throw-ins Galway thrashed Antrim 2-31 to 1-09 in their SHC Qualfier at Pearse Stadium while Clare had the measure of Laois (2-14 to 1-11) in Portlaoise. Offaly beat Dublin 2-25 to 2-13 in Tullamore.
Of the evening throw-ins for the SFC qualifiers Donegal denied Westmeath 1-13 to 1-08 at Cusack Park as Louth were victorious against Kildare at Newbridge (1-16 to 1-10).
In the SHC qualifier at Thurles Tipperary beat Cork 2-16 to 1-18.
The Tommy Murphy Cup semi-finals saw Antrim beat Clare 1-11 to 0-10 in Ennis while Wicklow were comfortable 2-15 to 0-14 winners over Waterford in Aughrim.
