The Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Ms de Valera, and her Clare constituency colleague, Mr ail deputy, Tony Killeen, have clashed over a High Court order instructing the Minister to have the site of the Mullaghmore interpretative centre restored to its original condition by the end of May.
A contractor employed by the Department is expected to start work soon. Some people in the north Clare area where Mr Killeen lives say they will prevent any work taking place.
Mr Killeen, who supported the building of the centre, wrote to Ms de Valera expressing his concern over the proposed action.
In reply, Ms de Valera said she was "sure that you would never suggest that either I, as Minister, or any law-abiding citizen should attempt to defy the courts even if we disagree with decisions made in those areas".
