Racing:Father-and-son team Tony and Danny Mullins struck in the feature race on the second day of the Galway Festival, the Tote Galway Mile EBF Handicap.
Despite having the disadvantage of stall number three, the young pilot was able to take up a fairly prominent position at halfway on the 6-1 joint-favourite Rock And Roll Kid.
Bashkirov led until two furlongs out where Maundy Money, who took a keen hold early, joined him, but when Rock And Roll Kid was asked a serious question the response was immediate and he shot into a clear lead before scoring by two lengths.
The winning trainer said: "That's the best five minutes in racing I've had in my life!
"I've been involved with some great horses, what with my father (Paddy) training and everything, but for the owner (Barry Connell) to breed the horse from a dam he bought off me, and for Danny to ride it - well, it doesn't get much better.
"We had a plan, but there are so many things that can go wrong - it's just fantastic."
Dermot Weld, who won the opening hurdles event, did not have to wait long to make it four for the week as Almolahek (11-2) denied My Valley victory in the Tote Jackpot Handicap for the third successive year.
My Valley looked to have fought off all-comers after making most of the running, but began to wander in the last 150 yards and Pat Smullen drove his mount up the rail for a convincing victory.
Weld said: "Pat gave him a great ride and made all the right decisions and got the split. He handled the ground and stayed well. You could see this fellow back here in a maiden hurdle on Saturday."
Weld's hot favourite Brushed Aside was no match for Aidan O'Brien's Devoted To You (5-2) in the www.thetote.com EBF Fillies Maiden, going down by nine lengths.
