Mumford & Sons have become the first act to be confirmed to play a series of concerts in the Phoenix Park this summer.

The group will play the venue on Sunday, July 14th backed by a strong line-up which features Ben Howard, The Vaccines and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.

MCD will hold three concerts in the Phoenix Park, with the other two rumoured to be headlined by The Killers and Justin Timberlake.

Each will have a capacity of 40,000. The other dates will be July 9th or 11th and July 13th.

The concerts will go ahead after a series of consultation meetings with residents who are concerned that there will be no repeat of the public order disturbances which marred the Swedish House Mafia concert at the same venue last year.

The first public consultation takes place on March 21st at the Ashtown visitor centre in the Phoenix Park.

Mumford & Sons have become one of the biggest bands in the world, following up their success of their debut album Sigh No More with the even more successful follow-up Babel. It was the bestselling album in the UK and the second bestselling in the United States last year. It also won the Grammy award for album of the year.

Tickets from ¤61.50 go on sale from 9.00am on Friday.
