A former Army sergeant who is accused of murder, Mr John Crerar, is listed to appear in the Dublin Circuit Civil Court next Monday to prosecute a claim for up to £30,000 damages for personal injuries against the Minister for Defence.

Mr Crerar (51), of Woodside Park, Kildare Town, Co Kildare, alleges he was partially deafened, due to negligence on the part of the Minister, while he was a member of the Defence Forces for 13 years until his retirement in 1979.

He is currently in custody charged with the murder of a Co Kildare woman, Ms Phyllis Murphy (23), 20 years ago.
