An unemployed man has been remanded in custody after he was charged with the murder of a father of one who was shot dead at a house party on the Waterford/Tipperary border on Sunday night.

Leigh Crowe (31), Elm Park, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, was charged with the murder of Owen Cahill (25) at Poulboy, Co Waterford, when he appeared at Carrick-on-Suir District Court in Co Tipperary yesterday morning.

Det Sgt Barry O'Riordan of Clonmel Garda station gave evidence of arresting and charging Mr Crowe with the murder of Mr Cahill. Mr Crowe had nothing to say in reply to the charge, he said.

Supt John McCann said he was seeking to have Mr Crowe remanded in custody to appear at Clonmel District Court next Tuesday. Judge Terence Finn agreed to the application while also approving an application for legal aid by Mr Crowe's solicitor, Peter Reilly.
