THE son of the Co Laois murder victim, Mrs Patti Bainbridge, was yesterday remanded in custody to appear at Portlaoise District Court on June 7th.
Mr Nigel Bainbridge (28), of The Old Rectory, Coolrain, Mountrath, appeared earlier this week at a special sitting of Portlaoise Court charged with the murder of Mrs Bainbridge. The body of his mother was found at the family home on Monday.
A post mortem carried out by the Chief State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, subsequently revealed that she had been shot once in the back.
At Portlaoise Court yesterday the accused man was joined by a relative who sat alongside him throughout the brief hearing.
An application for a remand in custody was made by the State Solicitor, Mr Donal Duane.
Judge Mary Martin asked the accused if he had any objection to a remand in custody for a period not exceeding 30 days. He replied that he had no objection.
Remanding the accused, Judge Martin said she was in possession of a medical report and was requesting that the accused get more help.
