A 28-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court charged with murder following a fatal stabbing incident on St Stephen's Day.
The accused, Egidijus Kiaulakis, Coille Bheithe, Nenagh, originally from Lithuania, was charged with murder contrary to common law at Summerhill, Nenagh, on December 26th, at a special sitting of Nenagh District Court yesterday.
The accused appeared in court visibly upset after shouting across to three women seated in the well of the court. Supt Bob Noonan initially applied to remand the accused in custody to Cloverhill Prison to appear at a sitting of Cloverhill District Court on Friday.
However, solicitor for the accused, Tony O'Malley, applied to have Mr Kiaulakis remanded to a sitting of Nenagh District Court on Friday next.
"The defendant has a wife and a six-month-old baby and travelling to Cloverhill would be extremely difficult for them," he said.
Judge Elizabeth MacGrath granted legal aid and remanded the defendant to the next sitting of Nenagh District Court on Friday.
Gardaí have not released the name of the 29-year-old man who died as a result of a fatal stab wound in the incident, with some confusion surrounding his next of kin. His name is expected to be released today.
