Gardaí have launched a murder investigation after a 25-year-old man who was shot in Dublin on Sunday morning died from his injuries in hospital yesterday.
The victim was shot in the neck at a house in Fortlawn Park, Blanchardstown, at about 5.30am. He was brought to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown by emergency services, where he was said to be in a critical condition when he arrived.
However, he died shortly before 6pm yesterday and a post-mortem will now be carried out.
His name was not released last night.
Gardaí believe that a lone gunman called to the man's house and shot him in the hallway. The gunman is then thought to have fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Shortly afterwards gardaí who were responding to the incident found a motorcycle on fire in nearby Sheepmore Grove.
The scene at Fortlawn Park was sealed off for a technical examination and the motorcycle is also being examined.
Gardaí at Blanchardstown have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 01-6667000.
The murder in Blanchardstown was the third violent death in recent days.
